As we know, we can use rituals to attain our goals. For example Serena Williams has many rituals before matches.
From The Daily Telegraph:
Serena Williams has developed a very precise formula for winning matches: she bounces the ball five times before her first serve and twice before her second serve. She also has a particular way of tying her shoelaces, brings her shower sandals to court and wears the same pair of socks throughout a tournament. Williams said she lost in the quarter-finals of the French Open in 2007 because she didn’t stick to her rituals. “I didn’t tie my laces right and I didn’t bounce the ball five times and I didn’t bring my shower sandals to the court with me. I just knew fate, it wasn’t going to happen,” she said…
The Magician– Jef recommended using beads for EOM (emptiness of mind)…
The purpose of thought control exercises in step one of I.I.H. is to learn to focus your attention on one particular thought, or train of coherent thought, with a goal toward eliminating any distractions.
I have a string of 108 large wooden beads. I used them (36 beads), in the beginning to note when my mind strayed from a train of thought, an individual thought, or no thought at all. Each time my mind wandered, I would move a bead to the end of the string.
In the beginning, the string of beads itself would distract me, but I soon learned to control my thoughts while holding them. I was able to work my way up from a very short period of concentration, without my thought straying, to unlimited periods of time without distraction.
Everyone who is studying magic should have a string of large plain wooden beads.
After some time, the very act of using the beads will produce a calm mind, because a ritual of use has worn a grove in the Akasha.
So by the time one gets to step 4, you will have good experience with ritual. Also the beads will become a sort of talisman for you, when you pick them up, you’ll feel calm. You could also try keeping them wrapped in silk and this will keep any of your peaceful energies you imparted to the beads..
Interestingly, the rugby team, ‘The All Blacks’ perform a ritual before each match called the Haka. Of course they are very successful. They have placed success and winning in this ritual, just like Serena Williams does.
But when Munster performed the Haka as a sort of tongue in cheek joke in front of the all Blacks, the All Blacks had a terrible game and barely managed to beat Munster that day, 18–16. Now Munster is nowhere near the level of the All Black. Was the ritual responsible? Absolutely!
